Staff from Sterling-based Sunrise Landscape & Design traveled to Arlington July 9 to participate in the 16th annual Renewal and Remembrance event at Arlington National Cemetery.
Owner Joe Markell, Landscape Management Coordinator Tom Kniezewski and Field Supervisor Andy Dannenberg, along with junior staff members, spent the day in sections 28, 51 and 52 of the cemetery. They applied lime to replenish the lawn, working alongside more than 400 other volunteers who trimmed trees, installed landscaping, maintained irrigation and other tasks.
In all, participating landscape companies and individuals contributed more than $200,000 in labor and goods to the national landmark this year—that adds to the more than $2 million in contributions since the event’s inception.
The event is sponsored by The Professional Landcare Network, an association representing more than 100,000 lawn and landscape professionals in the United States and Canada.
