The Piedmont Environmental Council tonight in Ashburn continues its series of community information meetings on Virginia Department of Transportation plans to develop a new highway corridor through Loudoun and Prince William counties.
The meeting will be held at the National Recreation and Park Association headquarters located at 22377 Belmont Ridge Road behind Briar Woods High School. Informational materials will be available for review beginning at 7 p.m., following by presentations at 7:20 p.m. PEC President Chris Miller and former Commonwealth Transportation Board member Jim Rich are slated to speak during the session.
Similar forums were held in Aldie and Middleburg.
The PEC and other critics of the state’s plans to develop what is now categorized as a Corridor of Statewide Significant say the project is the latest attempt to build an “Outer Beltway”— highway they say is unneeded and would divert road money away from other priorities while opening rural areas to development.
