A morning electrical fire has forced the Sterling Library to close today. It is anticipated that the library will open again Friday. However, there may be limited availability of public internet and computers. Updated information on the library’s status will be posted at library.loudoun.gov.
Fire-rescue crews were dispatched to the library on Enterprise Street in Sterling Park just after 9:30 a.m.—before the library's 10 a.m. opening time. According to Loudoun County Fire-Rescue, firefighters arrived on scene to find an active fire in an electrical transformer, with associated smoke and fire conditions extending into the building's electrical room. The fire was not near, nor did it damage, the library's main room or any of its materials, county spokesperson Anna Nissinen confirmed.
Everyone was safely evacuated from the building, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the blaze. Damage estimates were not immediately available.
