A man was nearly robbed at knifepoint after getting into his car at a Sterling shopping center Saturday.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office report, just after 9 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, a 50-year-old man left a store in the Cedar Lake Plaza and got into his vehicle. Once inside, the victim said he discovered someone was inside his van. He said the stranger pulled out a knife and demanded money.

The suspect then allegedly told the victim to drive to an area near Augusta Drive on Rt. 7. At one point the victim exited the vehicle and reached for his cell phone and the suspect then fled on foot.

No money was taken during the incident.
