With one suspect already in custody, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a second suspect in connection with the Oct. 14 armed robbery at an apartment in Purcellville.
According to the sheriff's office report, the home invasion robbery occurred on Monday at an apartment in the 100 block of N. 21st Street in the Town of Purcellville. Around 11:30 p.m. members of the Purcellville Police Department and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office responded to the apartment where the suspects reportedly entered the apartment and brandished firearms. One of the occupants of the apartment was assaulted during the robbery and received minor injuries. He was taken to the Cornwall Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital where he was treated and released.
Cash was reportedly taken before the suspects fled. The weapons used during the robbery have been recovered.
During a briefing before the Board of Supervisors Wednesday, Lt. Col. Bob Buckman told supervisors the robbery was not random and was "very targeted." He said the sheriff's office investigators had determined a motive in the case.
Tuesday, investigators with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office identified and arrested John C. Barwis, 23, of Ashburn, on charges of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Barwis is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond
Investigators are searching for David C. Russell, Jr., 21, of Leesburg, who is wanted in connection with the robbery. Russell is possibly driving a white Dodge Charger and is known to frequent the Leesburg and Sterling areas, according to the sheriff's office.
The two suspects have been identified and additional arrests are likely.
