The Loudoun County School Board will make its final decision on the proposed Loudoun Math & IT Academy charter school application tonight.
The applicants, most of whom are Loudoun County parents, aim to open a 575-student sixth- through 12th-grade public charter school that emphasizes math, technology and science. If it were approved, the school would operate under the umbrella of the Loudoun School Board.
However, the agenda for tonight’s School Board meeting shows the school system staff is recommending the board “reject or deny the application,” matching the recommendation of the Charter School Select Committee of the Board.
Under Virginia law, if the board makes any other decision other than accepting the application, it must identify the reasons in writing to both the applicant and the State Board of Education.
The School Board meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the School Administration Building, 21000 Education Court in Broadlands. To watch the School Board meeting live, go to www.lcps.org/page/65.
