Fifth-grade students from Emerick Elementary School got a treat last week when they were invited to spend the day out of their desks and at Camp Highroad in Aldie.
The students spent most of the day last Tuesday split into teams to navigate obstacle courses and tackle problems, such as how to transport a small ball 200 yards without throwing it or allowing it to touch the ground. The students also flew above the forest on a zip line, balanced their way across a wobbly bridge and worked together to bring the entire class across a tight rope.
Fifth-grade teacher Judy Harrington said the field trip gave students an opportunity to see that they can work as a team outside of sports activities. Her hope is to make a trip to Camp Highroad with her students each year.
